Carmen Sclafani is a performance physical therapist who blends physical rehabilitation and athletic performance in his practice. Born and raised in Toms River, NJ, Carmen is a former Division I baseball player at Rutgers University. His athletic journey significantly shaped his career, particularly after fracturing his elbow while pitching in junior high, which inspired his pursuit of sports physical therapy. Carmen earned his BA in Psychology from Rutgers University and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University. His clinical experience included affiliations with the Cincinnati Reds and Resilient, which significantly enhanced his skill and knowledge in strength and conditioning and return to sport clinical decision-making.
Carmen completed a sports physical therapy residency in Philadelphia with NovaCare Rehabilitation and Temple University, where he was a physical therapist for the Division I athletes at Temple. Additionally, he was part of the Philadelphia Phillies rehabilitation team, further enriching his experience with high level professional athletes. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Carmen integrates strength and conditioning principles with the complexities of rehabilitation and sport performance. Carmen is passionate about improving baseball-specific performance and rehabilitation, having worked with players across all levels, including MLB organizations and top collegiate and high school programs.
Through his formal training and personal experiences, Carmen has developed the ability to relate to and motivate his athletes and patients, skillfully guiding them through their comeback from injury with empathy. His dedication to improving athletic performance while minimizing injury risk has made him a trusted clinician in the field of sports physical therapy.
